Staley Museum in the Decatur Herald & Review

Staley-Museum-FrontA.E Staley Legacy Preserved

DECATUR – The spectacular mansion once owned by Decatur industrial baron Augustus Eugene Staley is getting ready to call him home again.

Well, it will at least put out the welcome mat to his illustrious spirit. The three-story and 12,000-square-foot house at 361 N. College St., which Staley bought in 1913 for the then-stunning sum of $20,000 (about $480,000 today) and spent another $15,000 ($360,000) remodeling in English Tudor style, does have a reputation for being haunted.
